Mike James Explodes on Preseason Stage With 14 Points for Anadolu Efes

Mike James officially joined Anadolu Efes after his time at AS Monaco, and from his preseason debut, the 36-year-old star made a strong impression. In the Euroleague exhibition game against Trabzonspor, Mike James contributed 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists in a 76-71 victory. This was a promising debut for the former Euroleague MVP, who will be a key piece for Turkish basketball's Anadolu Efes this season. The game context showed Anadolu Efes starting well. The Istanbul team led 34-31 at halftime before extending the lead thanks to James' contributions. As a veteran base, James quickly integrated, using his 18 years of NBA and Euroleague experience to control the game's pace. This match was not just an opportunity for James to prove his value, but also a signal that Anadolu Efes' lineup is in a positive transition phase. The core insight is in James' individual integration into the offensive system. With 14 points, he became the second-highest scorer after Daron Russell (16 points). These numbers not only reflect personal efficiency but also show that James can provide creativity right from the first minutes. Based on my experience tracking games, James is known for his ball handling and creating opportunities. Here, he demonstrated that clearly with 3 assists helping the team maintain pace. Contrarian angle: Many might think that at 36, James would struggle with Euroleague's high pace. However, the reality shows he exceeded expectations. The blind spot here is that James can serve as an experiential anchor for younger players, helping the team avoid physical losses. This preseason is just the beginning, but it shows a great opportunity for Efes to build a team for the season. Takeaway: Mike James not only provides immediate value but also opens doors for potential future transfer moves. Watch him in the next 3-5 preseason games to see if this base role develops into a pillar.
